Zine Making 101 at HoC Studio

 Zines are DIY magazines featuring writing, collage, art, ideas and opinions. You can share your story easily without the use of a screen or the internet. The possibilities of what you can create in your zine are open to whatever you can imagine! There are no rules! 

You’ll see examples of zines from Summer’s collection from the 90s Riot Grrrl movement to modern photography zines. We’ll use paper, stamps, collage, art, fabric and whatever materials inspire us to create our own individual zines. This is a beginner friendly workshop.

What you will learn: How-to create physical media using materials you already have. By repurposing materials for zines, we will be subverting traditional methods of media production (mass market paper production relies on global deforestation) and keeping materials like magazines, paper/fabric scraps, paper maps and newspapers out of the landfill. In addition, if you choose to distribute your zine, the method to do so is a slow, local and more sustainable way to market your zines.
