Birthday Bash | Making a Splash and Branching Out

Join us as we celebrate a major milestone — the 20th anniversary of the Tillamook Forest Center!

We’ll kick off the day with one of our favorite traditions: a fish release. At 11 a.m., after a short presentation, we’ll walk together to Jones Creek to release the young steelhead fry raised in our exhibit hall.

Throughout the celebration, enjoy special birthday‑bash activities and hands‑on fun for all ages, including Pin the Cable on the Steam Donkey. Arbor Month–themed games and activities will also be available in our Forest Education Pavilion.

While you’re here, explore our commemorative exhibit, Reflecting on Resilience — a limited‑time display honoring the deep histories that shaped this forest. From labor in the woods to learning in the forest.

Come celebrate our past, present, and future with hands‑on fun, forest learning, and community spirit. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Netarts/Oceanside Earth Day Cleanup

Celebrate Earth Month on Sunday, April 26th with the Friends of Netarts Bay Watershed, Estuary, Beach, and Sea (WEBS) by joining us in a beach cleanup from Cape Lookout State Park to Cape Meares and Bayocean Spit.

Winter brings an influx of marine debris, with storms washing up harmful trash that poses a threat to wildlife and our unique coastal ecosystems. Springtime offers the perfect opportunity to unite as a community and restore our beaches. WEBS has been hosting cleanups for decades with SOLVE, an environmental non-profit that supports volunteer-led environmental stewardship throughout Oregon. “Clean up the beach with friends or family, or expand your community by teaming up with fellow volunteers. Volunteers of all ages will find the beach cleanup fun, educational, and rewarding,” shares Marina Dreeben, WEBS Stewardship Coordinator.

We will meet at 4pm to clean up while the tide is low and wrap up our work as the sun starts setting at 6pm. Thanks to the amazing crew at The Schooner Restaurant and Lounge, all volunteers will receive a coupon for 10% off dinner on the evening of the cleanup, so be sure to stick around for a delicious, locally-sourced meal while you enjoy the sunset after an afternoon of hard work.

As you head out to clean up or just explore, it is important to remember that ocean shores can be dangerous. Avoid logs in the water, keep your distance from marine mammals, and never turn your back on the ocean! If you find any hazardous material, please alert a staff member.

Phytoplankton Field Day

Join the Friends of Netarts Bay WEBS and experts from the ODFW phytoplankton team on Sunday, April 12th, at 8:00 a.m. as we explore the phytoplankton in Netarts Bay and beyond!

Phytoplankton are microscopic organisms that live in the water column and convert sunlight to energy through photosynthesis. As the base of the marine food web and producers of 50% of the Earth’s oxygen, these little guys are critically important! Some species, however, also produce toxins that are harmful for marine life, humans, and pets.

During this two part event, we will dive into the benefits and dangers of phytoplankton. We will begin by collecting water samples in the field, and then head back to the Netarts Community Club to continue the conversation with a short “Phytoplankton 101” presentation. We will also have microscopes to take a closer look at our water samples, as well as stations for creating art and playing games to help us understand the roles of phytoplankton in the ecosystem. This event will combine research findings and expert insights with activities that are fun for the whole family!

Registration is required! Please visit https://www.netartsbaywebs.org/events to learn more and reserve your spot.

Trail Building in Nehalem Bay With LNCT!

Every Friday, volunteers gather on LNCT lands near Manzanita, Nehalem and Wheeler to protect and restore habitat in the lower Nehalem watershed. We would love to see new faces out on the land!
These work parties are beginner friendly and an opportunity to learn about the engineering of hiking trails. We will be working on uneven ground, bending, and moving small rocks and brush during this process. Tools and gloves are provided, new volunteers welcome and no prior experience needed. Join as frequently as you please.  Email shane@nehalemtrust.org for weekly updates on where to meet.
Alder Creek Farm and Natural Area’s Nehalem Teaching Trail already supports an impressive variety of native plants and simulated ecosystems for community learning—but we’re looking to grow. This short trail will extend educational access into a different ecosystem and connect to the Natural Area’s pollinator meadow. We hope it will also add some variety to habitat access for bird watchers who visit the farm as a part of the Oregon Coast Birding Trail.
